This is an in-person lab. The exp 19 module stated part was digital. It's
all in person. The module has been updated.
There are various shades of blue and green in Parts C, D and E. If
you're color blind tell the TA and he'll tell you what to do.
There's some help for exp 19 at the "Laboratory" link. I also have a help
file for exp 19 post-lab calc.,

For the report:
Do NOT fill in the report sheets by hand and submit a scan of them.
Write your report as usual with a title page and a page with purpose
and procedure. There's a template on Carmen to use for the report sheets.
The template has skeleton tables with headings, the questions, etc. Use
this template as a skeleton for the report sheets from the manual. The
skeleton tables in this template can be expanded by adding rows as needed.
However, these tables don't allow you to program equations in the cells.
You can copy the headings into Excel and make the tables there and then
copy them back to your report if you like.
The above Excel table also has the Data-to-Collect tables you can use in
your notebook.
Everything MUST be typed, NO scans or pictures allowed, including the
sample calculations (see below). We will NOT accept any reports with
handwritten parts for this report. The TA will tell you to resubmit with the
appropriate late penalties, even if it means it winds up being worth zero points.
There is NO Discussion section. There IS a Conclusion section in which
you summarize what you learned about equilibrium and Le Chatelier's
Principle (answer the purpose) and discuss inherent error. See the PDF
rubric as an easy reference to what's required.
Post-lab: On Carmen (quiz)
Sample Calculations:
Exp 19 doesn't list which sample calcs you need for exp 19 in the manual.
You always need to show sample calcs. It does state w/o detail what
to do on page 137 in the Report Requirements. They are on the rubric.
They're also in the template.
Here's what to do:
Part A:
Dilution calc. for SbCl3
Dilution calc. for H+ and Cl- , last step (after adding 2 mL of 6.0 M HCl) - lower
right box
Part B:
Lines 3-5 (Molarities of SbCl3, H+/Cl- and K, the equil. constant)
Part C:
Table 1: Molarity of Cl- (just show it for one row after adding 6.19 M NaCl).
Table 2: Molarity of Cl- after adding water to the solution from table 1 (using
the molarity.
Part D:
This involves the ethanolic soln of Cu^^2+. Show calculation of
Cl- in the blue soln (last line). This means you have to covert the
drops added to volume (mL). The conversion is given on page 138.
Clarification: The blank in the third line is the total drops to give the
green solution, not just the additional drops from the previous step.
Answer the questions on the report sheets (using the template on Carmen).
