Chapter 8 coverage and notes - 14th ed.

I got some questions about ch 1, ch 5 and ch 8 in the 14th edition.

The following is about ch 1, ch 5 and ch 8 in the 14th edition and when 
things
in those chapters were covered.  This info is addressed at the "Notes" 
link on my
class web page.  It's also on my web pages at the "Quizzes" link and 
discussed in
the material for quiz 2.

For the *14th edition*, I covered section 1.4 and units of energy in 
section 1.5 as
part of ch 5.

For the *14th edition*, we did not cover section 5.8 (Bond Enthalpies)
in chapter 5.  We covered it as part of Ch 8 so you need to read that 
section.

I hope this helps to make things clearer for those with the 14th ed.  It 
is also reflected
in the assigned end-of-chapter exercises on my web page.

Remember to look at the "Notes" link which lists sections we aren't
covering or other changes for various editions of the textbook.
