The blank sample quiz and solutions for quiz 1 are up at the "Quizzes"
link on my personal class webpage.
I've released the scores and you can view the quiz and your
actual answers.
Before e-mailing me about whether there's a mistake or you don't
understand why you missed something look at the sample quiz and
solutions.
A few people e-mailed me about the last question, #9, which is an
initial rate problem. Their question was about the fact there was
a product in the table and whether a product could be in a rate law.
The answer to that is yes it can. I mentioned this more than once
in class. Also, when products are in rate laws they often have
negative exponents (orders). I can't say they always will but that's
often the case. Reactants, products, catalysts and inhibitors can
appear in rate laws. We don't discuss inhibitors a lot but they will
have negative exponents (they inhibit, slow down, the rate of
the reaction).
Another thing about this problem is if you missed the order of
one of the substances you weren't likely to get the correct
overall order or the correct value for the rate constant "k".
Keep that in mind and just make sure you know how to get
both of these things once you get the proper rate law. Also,
keep in mind if you missed these because of this it's a small
part of this one quiz and just a very small amount of your
final course score.
Finally, if a numeric answer asks for you to enter a number
with a certain number of decimal places you need to follow
these directions. If you don't you don't get credit and we will
not go back and give credit. This applies to the midterm as
well. Follow the directions.
