Good luck on MT 1

I'll start this by saying good luck on the exam.

There are 36 questions. The questions and answers are randomized. The midterm is mostly
multiple-choice questions. There will be a few numeric (calculation type) fill-in-the blank questions
for which you work out the answer and type it in. Do NOT use scientific notation. The OSU version
of Canvas (Carmen) doesn't use sci. not. Do NOT use units for these two questions. The questions
will tell you how many decimal places to use. Be careful typing the number in and check the number
before clicking on the Next button. We will not go back and give credit for not following directions
(e.g. putting in the incorrect # of decimal places).

Take a break now before the exam and relax. You won't learn anything useful between now and 4
(technically you don't really learn much that's useful the day of the exam that will help). Stay calm and
don't let it throw you if you can't answer a question. You get about 2.5 minutes per question on average.
Some will take more time and some will take less. You can't spend too much time on a question. If it's
a multiple-choice calculation question and you don't get an answer that's there just redo the calculation
being more careful. If you get the same answer you did previously take a quick look to see if you can find
your mistake. If not and you've already spent a fair amount of time on the question you may just have to
take a guess and move on. Remember, you can't move backward in the exam. Do NOT leave any
question unanswered before moving on to the next question.

You can use your iPad to take the exam. However, I suggest using a computer because the screen is
bigger and it will make it easier to see things. Use your iPad for your scratch work. Try to use a
direct connection to the internet if you can (rather than WiFi) for the exam.

In any case, it Is suggested you use Chrome (the website for the exam states you can us Safari but
Chrome is probably better). Here's a couple of things from an announcement in Carmen.

To best view images in the exam, access Carmen using an Incognito Window in the Chrome or
Safari browsers.

DO NOT USE THE CANVAS STUDENT APP ON YOUR IPAD TO TAKE THE EXAM! We cannot
guarantee your access to exam materials if you do not use an Incognito Window on one of these
two recommended browsers.
