Problems accessing Mastering and/or e-Text

I'm getting quite a few e-mails about people having trouble getting into Mastering,
or getting the e-Text. Some have mentioned they couldn't get in or got in but then
it quit working.

Each semester you have to repurchase Mastering. The e-Text comes free with that.
Unless you opted out of CarmenBooks, you were charged automatically for Mastering.
This should give you access to Mastering. Do NOT go directly to Pearson to purchase
Mastering or sign up or even sign in.

You still need to register. The document with instructions for doing this are in Carmen.
If you're having problems there's also a Powerpoint help file. The links to these can be
found in multiple places in Carmen:

1) On our course homepage, in the blue-green box below the black box with the picture
of some old guy, there's a line right below "Getting Started". There's links there for
both of these files.

Register for your textbook following these instructions.<https://osu.instructure.com/courses/95135/files/27652715/preview> View this presentation<https://osu.instructure.com/courses/95135/files/28054387?wrap=1> if you have problems registering.

2) You can find the same documents in two Modules (found in the Navigation bar). In the
"Introduction" module you'll find a submodule with information and links to these files.

e-Text Registration Instructions and Help & Pearson Office Hours <https://osu.instructure.com/courses/95135/modules/items/5663575>

This is also in the "Lecture" module.

You may ask, why this is in so many places? So there were lots of ways you could find them.

The registration document tells you how to get into Mastering if you already have a Pearson account
and if you don't. It also states:

Note: We recommend you always enter your MyLab & Modified Mastering course through Canvas.

It is best to do this rather than going to the Pearson website directly.

If you follow the directions in the registration file and it still doesn't work then go to the help
Powerpoint and follow those directions. If that fails you'll need to contact Pearson. At the
bottom of this file there's information about Pearson office hours with a Zoom link.

If you already purchased Mastering and/or the e-Text directly from Pearson you'll have to get
your money back. They may also have to do something so you can get into everything the
correct way.

I hope this helps those of you having problems. I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Dr. Zellmer
