Look a the "Laboratory" link on my class web page for help
for exp 2 (dTf). Do this before lab, while writing up your procedure.
You will need to collect some temperature data which will not
wind up on the report sheet. Make allowances for this in your
notebook. You'll see this in the "Data to Collect" section of
the lab manual. Those sheets have three lines for the f.p. in
each step. You're suppose to do at least 3 f.p. determinations
but it may require more. You need to do determine the f.p.
multiple times until you get three freezing points which are
w/in + or - 0.1 degC. Thus, it may require more than three
attempts.
When you see that last bit of solid cyclohexane melt (the
glassy looking solid) if you see any little solid particles floating
around that's your solute which has come out of solution.
That f.p. determination is no good. You need to redissolve
the solute and try again.
