This email details the Expt 1 Postlab, Rubrics, Report Formats/Due
dates, and Online Prelabs/Reports
This is a copy of the following link from the lab info link sent in the
first e-mail sent:
Second email sent to class (online data)

DUE DATES (do the prelab within a week before your lab, do the postlab
quiz within a week after): Prelabs (online quiz or data-entry) must be
completed by the starting time of YOUR lab period the day you start the
experiment OR will be zero credit. Postlabs (onine quiz or data-entry)
must be completed and the paper Report must be turned into your TA at
the start of YOUR lab period the week after you complete the experiment.
Online quizzes will not receive credit if submitted late.
There are also three experiments (2, 4, 5) which will have data entry
for part of the report. There will be online prelabs for experiments 2,
4 and 5 which should be completed before you do the experiment (see below).
Lab Reports for Experiments *1-6* will not be accepted later than 4:30
PM, Friday, March 13th (in CE 110). No Lab Reports will be accepted
after 4:30 PM, Monday, April 27th (in CE 110)
Late reports (even if on the same day) will be penalized 10% per day. If
you submit a late report to CE 110, you must notify your TA by email
within one day after submission. NO credit will be given after 2 weeks
or past the due dates just mentioned.
The majority of labs have Carmen prelab and postlab quizzes. You will be
shown the questions that you answered incorrectly on the Carmen prelab
quiz but NOT the postlab quiz.
EXPT 1 POSTLAB: This involves the grading of notebooks at this link:
http://undergrad-ed.chemistry.ohio-state.edu/labnotebook (the directions
are about 1/2 down the page - click on the yellow boxes)
- this should be submitted with the Report for 1 in the second lab
period (this is the notebook grade for Expt 1)
- notebooks will be graded for the rest of the labs on a 10 point scale
based on this exercise.
PRELABS, REPORT FORMATS AND DUE DATES:
<http://undergrad-ed.chemistry.ohio-state.edu/genchem/1210lab/PLP.pdf>
Chemistry 1210 has prelabs that are due before you start lab - three of
them are done online and use the same calculations required to do the lab.
GRADING RUBRIC: Each lab will have a grading rubric posted on Carmen
under Content. Each experiment will have a separate listing under the
Laboratory section. You must print this page and attach it as the last
page of your lab report.
So this should be done the week before you come to lab:
* 1. Read the entire experiment.
* 2. Do the online prelab (expt 2, 4, 5) or the prelab quiz on Carmen
(see syllabus)
* 3. Prepare the Purpose, Procedure and Data Table(s) in your lab
notebook. Write the Purpose and Procedure in your own words.
Before you leave lab:
* 1. Have TA sign notebook and submit copies from lab notebook.
For the lab from the previous week (due at beginning of lab):
* 1. Do the post-lab quiz on Carmen (see Content in Carmen) or the
online data reporting if required (expt 2, 4, 5)
* 2. Turn in the lab report - include Purpose, Procedure Reference,
Report Form, Sample Calcs, Graphs (if necessary) Discussion of
Results and Conclusion. ATTACH the Rubrics (see Content in Carmen)
as the last page.
* OR Carmen Report (7, 9, 11), turn in the Rubrics (see Content in
Carmen) as the last page.
ONLINE PRELABS AND DATA REPORTING (expt 2, 4, 5):
* All submissions are date/time stamped with a start and end time. You
start a session by entering your name.# If the session times-out,
you will lose data.
* Online prelabs are NOT printed - the TA will check your grade and
the submission date online.
* You can only do the online data entry AFTER YOU COLLECT THE DATA.
Report forms are filled out with correct numbers (do the online
entry first for 2, 4, 5)
* Online prelabs and data entry are accessed at this site:
PRELAB/REPORT
<http://undergrad-ed.chemistry.ohio-state.edu/genchem/REPORT/>
* FIRST, read the directions : Directions
<http://undergrad-ed.chemistry.ohio-state.edu/genchem/REPORT/directions.html>
* Click on Prelab or Report Unknown Data/Calcs ; THEN select the
experiment on the next page.
* IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM: all your inputs are saved so I can see how
far you got and why you lost points. You can email me with questions.
