MDM Observatory 1.3m Telescope Observing Report for 2025 Jan 16

Observer(s): John Thorstensen
Institution(s): Dartmouth

Instrument: Templeton direct

Worked for 3+ hours (off and on through the night)
Conditions were Mixed most of the night.
Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details.

Seeing and Weather:
   Beg: Patchy Clouds, Winds Moderate
   Mid: Overcast, Winds Moderate
End: Seeing 1+ arcsec, Clear, Winds Moderate

Observing Summary:

Clouding up rapidly at start -- took flats and closed. Around
1:30 MST it cleared rapidly from W to E, so I opened. After I
had tracked a target for a couple of hours (and hopefully observed
an eclipse) the image faded - I was not watching - as if the dome
stopped moving (the telescope continued to track) so the last hour
was lost. I did not have time to diagnose the problem further
than that, unfortunately - other obligations. Closed around 4:50
MST, before twilight.
