The Student Life Multicultural Center is proud to welcome Gregory A. Cendana to campus for two exciting events as a part of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. Cendana is the first openly gay and youngest-ever Executive Director of the Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance (APALA) and Institute for Asian Pacific American Leadership & Advancement (IAPALA). As executive director of the APALA Gregory is responsible for the day-to-day operations and works closely with the national executive board to carry out social and economic justice campaigns, which include immigration reform and fighting for an increase in the minimum wage.

He sees his primary role as a vehicle to explore and educate others about the various intersections between diverse communities; he prides himself on using his position to provide opportunities to help others understand just how connected different communities are and the issues we all face.

In his own words: "The struggle for worker's rights is connected to the struggle for LGBT equality. The struggle for quality and affordable education is connected to the struggle for racial justice. The struggle for climate justice and clean energy is connected to the struggle for immigrant rights. The struggle for women's rights is connected to the struggle for voting rights and election reform. Cendana believes we must push ourselves to "break outside of our bubbles and find ways to do more work collectively - it's how we will win, how we can create change and ensure social and economic justice for everyone."

Join us for an evening of inspiration, introspection and social justice skill building. Campus and community members are invited to participate in this spirited dialogue: everyone is welcome!
