[Vwoolf] Anyone Know Where This Was Originally Published?

It might be helpful, particularly to people at an early/earlier stage of their career, to have a sort of forum (here?) on the whole issue of permissions. It’s, as the Americans say, something of a crapshoot. According to a friend who is a professional picture researcher, for example, whole archives have been bought by wealthy people needing somewhere to park their money, and these typically are impervious to any negotiation. Then again, Peter’s advice is something I’ve followed many times and often successfully when dealing with a human who understands the situation.Maybe a kind of index to Bloomsbury-related images (an update of Elizabeth Richardson’s invaluable book) would be possible as a crowd-sourced online space? (Says he who has no idea how that might be realized!)

Those are quite fine photos of them I’d never seen before. Another way of negotiating is to say you are a poor academic who can only afford to pay xdollars or otherwise won’t use the images. They might prefer to have a little money rather than none. That’s worked for me when I’ve sought permission to reprint articles. Best, Peter

It leads nowhere except the "novelish" connection....here it is with the image....

Just wondering if anyone knows where it first appeared.

Thanks!

P.S. It is quite expensive to license this particular image for a book, just FYI.
