It is a common American idiom denoting silence where one might have expected a response. (“We asked the Republicans to comment on the fact that so many of their representatives are lunatics. Crickets. ”) It is weird, to me, because crickets

It is a common American idiom denoting silence where one might have expected a response. (“We asked the Republicans to comment on the fact that so many of their representatives are lunatics. Crickets.”)



It is weird, to me, because crickets are actually quite noisy. Unless you go near them!
