At the end of the day, this case was about securing justice for our plaintiffs and holding the defendants accountable – and the financial, legal, and operational toll on these extremists has been huge. This case also allowed us to tell the full story of what happened that deadly weekend, and pull back the curtain on how these extremists operate.

We’re making this evidence publicly accessible in furtherance of that goal – especially with our case now serving as a model for other litigation.

In late November, following a month-long trial, a jury of Virginia residents found that the defendants had engaged in an illegal conspiracy to commit violence and intimidation. The multi-million dollar verdict held the defendants jointly and severally liable.

As detailed over the course of trial, the defendants meticulously planned for violence in the months leading up to Unite the Right.

The defendants -- which include some of the most notorious white supremacists, neo-Nazis, and hate groups in America -- organized on Discord and other social media platforms, over text messages, and through in-person meetings. Then, on August 11 and 12, 2017 they attacked the city of Charlottesville -- injuring dozens (including IFA’s nine plaintiffs), killing Heather Heyer, and rocking a nation that had become far too complacent about the growing threat of white supremacist extremism. Afterward, they declared the “Battle of Charlottesville” -- publicly marketed as Unite the Right -- a massive victory and celebrated the death and injury.
