Lacey Act Amendments Do Not
Move Forward in Congress!
The CHIPS and Science bill signed by President Biden yesterday included the technology initiatives of the America COMPETES Act, USICA, and other bills. The portions of COMPETES that not pertinent to the bill (including Section 71102, Lacey Act Amendments) were not included. This should be the end of any threat to US aquaculture posed by the ill-conceived Lacey Act amendments during the 117th Congress which ends January 3, 2023.

Thank you to everyone who contacted their Senators and Representative to express your opposition! Your informed outreach is hugely important when advocacy groups like the National Aquaculture Association, American Farm Bureau Federation, US Association of Reptile Keepers, Pet Advocacy Network and other like-minded organizations meet with legislators. Our message gains traction when Congress has been hearing from constituents.

Also, a huge thank you to the animal keepers and organizations who opposed the Lacey Act amendments! The NAA and US aquaculture were not the only ones fighting these provisions. Stopping the Lacey Act amendments demonstrates that various animal interest groups can work together, make a difference, and be effective against animal rights organizations that fought hard for the amendments.

Your membership and support for the NAA is so very important to track, report, inform and create effective advocacy.  Share this NAA Update and ask your friends in the aquaculture farming community if they are a NAA member. If not, then tell them to get off their free-loading butt and move the needle for US aquaculture by joining.
