[Sc-aquaponics] Fw: Natural Resources (Wildlife Spring 2021) Rule Review

All,

The ODW is conducting their typical 5-year review of the rule 1501:31-19-01. This rule is called "Wild animal importing, exporting, selling and possession regulations." There are NO proposed changes to the rule, and all licensed aquaculture, bait dealers, and zoos/aquaria in the state should have been notified in mail the beginning of April. This rule focuses on injurious aquatic invasive species and exotic species of fish in the state.

As a side note, in the Business Impact Analysis, they note the current list of licensed facilities in the state:
158 aquaculture facilities
444 bait dealers
5 zoos/aquaria

While not all licensed aquaculture facilities are actually producing fish, the numbers I reference when talking about our industry are those that are found in the Census of Aquaculture. In 2018, only 59 producers responded to NASS. In fact, I had to report USDA NASS data (only 59 producers and farm-gate value of $6.65 million) this morning to my supervisors. The Census matters.
