Presentation Topic:

Process Verification

Presentation Title:

Transparency From Farm To Market

Presenter:

Angie Snyder & Jeff Waite

Presentation Description:

Third-party verification is a topic that is not uncommon to find producers in the North Central Region talking about. What has been a little harder to find are programs that provide third-party verification that would not “break the bank.” Would you like to find a program that would verify your process in a way that would help you achieve your marketing goals? Are you looking at adding a logo to your packaging to help you tell your story? Join Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant on March 24, 2021, at 11 am eastern standard time to learn about USDA’s Process Verified Program from our guest speakers and USDA representatives Jeffery Waite and Angie Snyder. They will be presenting information about the Process Verified Program and how you can customize your program to fit your farms’ verification needs.

Speaker Bio:

Angie Snyder has more than 30 years of experience supporting the agricultural sector and interacting with farmers, stakeholders, and government officials. Since October 2018, Angie has served as the Director of the Quality Assessment Division of the Livestock and Poultry Program in the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Marketing Service. In this role, Angie oversees nationwide quality grading services for meat, poultry, and eggs and domestic and export auditing and accreditation services for a variety of livestock, poultry, and seafood and aquaculture products. Prior to this, Angie served as the Associate Deputy Administrator of the Livestock and Poultry Program. In addition to quality grading and auditing services, Angie has overseen mandatory and voluntary market news reporting services, economic and statistical analysis services, food product specification development for Federal food and nutrition assistance programs, retail country of origin labeling, seed regulatory testing, and research and promotion programs, working on a variety of programs for the livestock, poultry and egg, and fruit and vegetable industries.

Jeff Waite is the Chief of the Livestock and Poultry Program’s Audit Services Branch (ASB) within USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS). He is responsible for developing and administering audit-based programs such as the USDA Process Verified Program, which facilitate the marketing of livestock, poultry, and agriculturally based products. These responsibilities include the Quality System Verification Program Services, third-party reviews for other USDA agencies, and audit-based verification activities including the verification of foreign government export requirements. Verification includes reviewing quality assurance programs and value-added standards for production, processing, and distribution of agricultural commodities. Jeff also oversees accreditation activities for private sector certifiers of agricultural products and system certification for agricultural producers and processors on a nationwide and international basis. Prior to ASB, he served as Audit Section Head of Poultry Programs within AMS, responsible for the development of audit-based policies and procedures for marketing programs offered to the Poultry industry.
