BASIC & ADVANCED COURSES – SPRING 2015

Principles of Aquaponics - Biology 380 – 2 credits
Non-credit, reduced fee option available for those interested in the course but not needing college credit.
Online lectures (February 25 – May 4) with weekly online discussion sessions.

General principles of the integrated science of aquaponics, the combination of aquaculture (fish culture) and hydroponics (soilless plant culture).  Introductory knowledge of aquaponic systems, biological functions, socio-economics & marketing.


Introduction to Aquaponics - Biology 384 – 3 credits
Hybrid course: Online lectures (February 25 – May 4) with weekly online discussion sessions; In-person lab sessions meet (May 18 – May 20) at the UWSP Aquaponics Innovation Center, Nelson & Pade, Inc. campus, Montello, WI.

Biological system designs, production techniques and methods for the integrated science of aquaponics, the combination of aquaculture (fish culture) and hydroponics (soilless plant culture). Foundational knowledge of aquaponic food production, fish culture, crop selection, good agriculture & best management practices, and economics & marketing.  Includes 3-day, hands-on lab sessions in May.
