2018 Community Engagement Conference proceedings now online

The Ohio State University Library's Knowledge Bank now includes Engaged Scholars, a searchable collection of engaged scholarship being conducted by university and community partners.  The collection includes the 2018 Community Engagement Conference proceedings as well as presentations from the 2013-17 University Engagement Forums.  For best search results, use the search box at the top of the page and select "Only this Collection."  All presentations include contact information for the primary presenter to make new collaborations easier.

Invite the Writing Center into your classroom

The Writing Center provides informational visits to individual classes.  The presentation offers a description of what to expect during a consultation, as well as information about the Center's hours, locations, and available opportunities.  Writing Center staff can also help you review and assess your students' writing.  These resources can be especially helpful in service-learning courses that involve the often unfamiliar skill of reflective writing.

Call for research on Service-Learning for a special edition
The Journal for Character Education is planning a special edition devoted to service-learning. The special edition will feature rigorous peer-reviewed research studies, book reviews, and thoughtful commentaries that examine the social-emotional impacts and personal-social outcomes associated with participation in service-learning.  Articles that reflect research or discuss important issues related to social justice, community engagement, and other social-psychological or culture-based issues related to service-learning will be considered.  One-page abstracts should be submitted by September 14.

PUBLIC fifth anniversary issue now available

PUBLIC: A Journal of Imagining America is pleased to announce the publication of its fifth anniversary issue: Public Scholarship, Place, and Proximity: Imagining America at the University of California at Davis, guest edited by Erica Kohl-Arenas, Faculty Director of Imagining America and Associate Professor of American Studies, UC Davis, and Robyn Magalit Rodriguez, Professor of Asian American Studies, UC Davis.  Marking Imagining America's recent move to its first West Coast home at UC Davis, this issue investigates the opportunities and tensions involved in producing timely and locally engaged public scholarship in a specific regional setting - California's Central Valley.
