Undergraduate students invited to apply for Propel Ohio leadership Summit
Propel Ohio is a leadership program that promotes civic engagement and inspires undergraduate students to grow into civic leaders in Ohio. Undergraduate students are invited to apply to participate in Propel Ohio: Collegiate Leadership Summit 2016, which will be held on Friday, Oct. 14 at the University of Dayton. The program will actively engage college students on issues around childhood poverty.  The deadline to apply is Friday, Sept. 16.

Service-learning advocate Hutzel to chair Arts Administration, Education, and Policy
Associate Professor Karen Hutzel has been appointed chair of the Department of Arts Administration, Education and Policy, College of Arts and Sciences.  Hutzel is a community-engaged scholar, applying principles of participatory action research to her collaborations with community and cultural groups locally and globally. Her research and teaching expertise includes service-learning collaborative artmaking; asset-based community development; urban art education; and participatory action research. She is senior co-editor of the Journal of Cultural Research in Art Education.

Ohio State Service-Learning Planning Committee formed
Enhancing Ohio State's already-lauded community engagement is a pillar of President Michael Drake's 2020 Vision for the university.  To support this, Executive Vice President and Provost Dr. Bruce McPheron and Senior Vice President for Student Life Dr. Javaune Adams-Gaston have jointly commissioned a Service-Learning Planning Committee comprised of representatives from the faculty, the Office of Student Life, and the Office of University Outreach and Engagement.  The committee is charged with developing a comprehensive blueprint for Ohio State's service-learning programs - one designed to ensure all undergraduates have the opportunity to participate in service-learning programs before they graduate.

Resources and Opportunities
New Ohio State service-learning grant program
The Office of Service-Learning, with support from the Office of Undergraduate Education and the Office of Outreach and Engagement, is pleased to announce a new Service-Learning Grants program for Autumn 2016!  These grants, up to $4,000 each, will support courses using a new partnership model with the Columbus Metropolitan Library.  This is a very flexible model that can be applied to a wide variety of courses, while at the same time alleviating the pressure on individual instructors to develop new partnerships with service sites. The deadline to apply is Monday, October 15.
