Service-learning lecture hosted by Literacy Studies and the Department of History
What do a 16th-century miller and a 21st-century elementary school student have in common?  Think service-learning can only work in certain courses or disciplines?  To answer these questions, on Monday, Oct. 31, at 3:30pm in 311 Denney Hall, the Lecture in Literacy Studies Series will host Kolleen M. Guy, Associate Professor of History at University of Texas, San Antonio.  Guy's lecture will discuss a service-learning experience with literacy as the object of service in a course on European cultural history.

Ohio State Lima service news
Ohio State Lima has kicked off its new service initiative WeServe.  Dean and Director Charlene Gilbert challenged the students, faculty, and staff to volunteer 5,000 hours as a campus during the 2016-2017 academic year.  One great example of service at the Lima campus is the Ohio Land Exchange.  Students helped map 726 vacant lots in Lima, as well as collecting ideas to transform the lots from 15 different organizations.  Lima students are now working to build mobile, temporary installations to showcase reuse strategies for the vacant parcels.

2nd Annual Ohio Hunger Dialogues
Xavier University will host the 2nd Annual Ohio Hunger Dialogues Friday and Saturday, Nov. 11-12.  This event brings together students, faculty, and staff from around the state and region to join civic leaders to address and seek solutions to the issues of hunger in our local communities through teaching, research, and service.   Registration includes interactive site visits, a screening of "A Place at the Table," a plenary panel with regional experts on hunger, and a day of interactive workshops.

Early voting transportation: 10/30, 11/5, 11/6
OSU Votes is coordinating free transportation from the Ohio Union to the Franklin County Board of Elections to participate in early voting for the November 2016 election.  Ohio State students, faculty, and staff who are registered in Franklin County can sign-up to reserve a seat for one of the Early Voting Transportation events on: Sunday, October 30; Saturday, November 5; and Sunday, November 6.
