That’s correct, you’ll need a local install of munge with the cluster munge.key.

I opened an issue against our documentation since the current description is misleading: https://github.com/OSC/ood-documentation/issues/94

Hi, Trey (morgan & jason) --
Thanks for your response. This is the phrase that led me to understand an action was needed (from https://osc.github.io/ood-documentation/master/installation/resource-manager/slurm.html):

The Open OnDemand server will need the appropriate MUNGE keys (see Slurm Quick Start Administrator Guide<https://slurm.schedmd.com/quickstart_admin.html>) for the various clusters to be able to status and submit batch jobs.

Then from your feedback, and from others, I need to ensure a local installation of munge, with the cluster munge.key in /etc/munge/munge.key?
Thanks

As far as I’m aware you do not have to directly reference the munge key anywhere in OOD. You just have to ensure that munge is properly configured with the same key as the cluster you will be submitting jobs to. The web server should be setup like a submit host in the sense that you can sbatch and squeue from the web server.

I'm installing OOD today on a web server to allow access to our slurm cluster. Sorry to be slow to understand, but I'm not at all clear on how to satisfy the requirement to configure the submission of jobs with the munge.key file. I am familiar with munge and how it is installed in my cluster. What is unclear is how to reference the munge key through the OoD configuration.
Thanks a lot -- so far the installation has been tested through the web server to provide shell access to cluster head nodes. I don't have the SSL certificates sorted out, and will work on that asynchronously.

Best regards
~ Em
