Good news for all students, teachers, parents and others whoneed books during the current national emergency. The Universal School Libraryhas been established to offer FREE access to a huge array of thousands of books- including many for reading assignments for today’s distance-learners - suitablefor use by students of all ages. Gifted ed students, of course, could read higher-level books.
 The Universal School Library (USL), is a growing collectionof digitized books – grades 3 through 12, as well as adult-level books - withinthe Internet Archive’s larger holdings, made available through controlleddigital lending, and curated by a national advisory group of school librarians,librarian educators and researchers. You can search and find selected booksfrom a selection of school libraries across the country, as well as fromnationally recognized book-award and recommendation lists. The collection for students is organized byreading level or grade, too. Note: Parents, teachers and librarians can reviewthe collection and link directly to the books that they deem appropriate,rather than having younger readers search the broader collection themselves.(The National Emergency Library is a new part of the Archive, with the USLbeing part of that.) Anyone with an email address can sign up for a free accountwith the Internet Archive and access the National Emergency Library and the USL.Please visit https://archive.org/account/signup.Parents may want to use their own email addresses to sign up and check outbooks for their children, or create a new, dedicated email with no identifyinginformation to use for this purpose.
