Background:  Mensa isan international society of persons who have scored in the top two percent ofthe general population on an accepted, standardized intelligence test. Mensamembers are a very diverse group and come from all walks of life and all races,personality types, ethnic origins and faiths and have a broad range of interests.All share the common characteristic of high intelligence. The Dayton local groupincludes over 200 members from elementary school age through early 90s andhas many regular gatherings and social activities. Thetest is open to anyone age 14 and older, but parental permission is requiredfor those ages 14-17.  The test American Mensa administers is notnormed and validated for persons under 14. Applicants of any age can use priorevidence from a wide variety of other standardized IQ tests toqualify. Mensa also has a culture-fair, language-neutral test given byindividual appointment for candidates whose first language is not English.
