Professional Development

Fall Conference

Small session proposals for the OAGC Fall Conference are due on March 31,
2018. To download a copy of the call for proposal, please go to
www.oagc.com/fallconference . If you need additional time to submit a

Summer HQPD Training

Save the date! OAGC will be holding a Summer HQPD Training Academy on June
21 and 22. This acadmey is designed specifically for classroom teachers and
will tentatively be held at the Worthington Education Center. Space will be
limited. Look for the registration form in April at
[3]www.oagc.com/hqpd.asp .

Advocacy

There are so many bills and issues to watch, it is dizzying. to keep up on
all the latest, please follow OAGC on Twitter or Facebook (see directions
below) or visit [4]www.oagc.com/advocacyalerts.asp . Here is a quick list
of issues:

HB216 is an explosive bill that take away most of the power of the State
Board of Education  and merges three agencies, including ODE, into one.
This new agency would be led by an appointed cabinet member reporting
directly to the governor. This bill would eliminate the public's ability to
impact education policy. OAGC strongly opposes this bill.

SB216, the education deregulation bill is scheduled to pass the Ohio Senate
this week and will be debated in House Education sometime in April. While
the most destructive language regarding gifted has been resolved in the
bill, there continue to be issues including one that will impact gifted
licensure.

Gifted Rule Changes

The State Board of Education is in the process of revising the gifted
operating standards to allow the gifted professional development over four
years (instead of two) and to decrease the PD hourly requirement to some
qualified AP/IB teachers. The rule change will likely be in place for next
school year.

Report Card Under Review

The State Board of Education is reviewing all the elements of the report
card and is expected to release recommendations in May.

Gifted HQPD -- High Quality Professional Development

As the gifted operating standards are now in effect, OAGC has been working
hard to assist districts in implementing the new classroom teacher gifted
HQPD requirement. As part of our on-going effort to ensure that Ohio's
classroom teachers receive Ohio specific and relevant professional
development, OAGC has been working with GTIGNITE to develop Ohio specific
modules.  For more information on this partnership along with with several
tools and documents that will help you plan, provide, and track gifted
