Advocacy

Proposed Gifted Operating Standards

ODE has created a survey to collect input on the proposed gifted rule or
operating standards. Unfortunately, the questions are highly biased to
illicit responses that will support the dismantling of the current
standards. Gifted advocates will need to respond carefully and in great
numbers to the survey. By request, OAGC has put together some guidelines to
help respondents answer the survey questions. Please go to

responding to the survey. The link to the ODE survey is
[2]https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/8QKLLFR .  The deadline to provide input
is 5:00 pm on Friday, November 6, 2015.

It is crtically important that State Board members hear from gifted
advocates about these proposed standards, which will render gifted services
meaningless across the state if implemented. For more information about how

OAGC State of Gifted Survey

We will not receive information from the 2015-2016 gifted performance
indicator for several months, but it is clear that districts are making
changes to both identification and service as a result of the indicator.
In order to provide information to the State Board of Education as well as
other policymakers, OAGC is conducting a survey of district changes made to
gifted identification, services, staffing, and professional development. We
need just one person (gifted coordinator or whoever is assigned to that
duty) to fill this out per district. ESC gifted coordinators are asked to
fill out the survey for each district they serve. The link to the survey is
[4]https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/StateofGifted . Please fill this survey
out by 10.31.15 so that we have to time compile the data for members of the
State Board of Education. If you have questions or issues with the survey,

Gifted Regional Schools Task Force

ODE is creating a task force to discuss the legislative directive to study
the possiblity of gifted regional schools. If you are a coordinator in a
suburban or urban area or a parent in a rural, suburban, or urban area and
would like to participate, please email [6]anngift at aol.com .

OAGC Coordinator Workshop -- December 4, 2015

The OAGC Coordinator Division Winter Workshop, "All Things Acceleration" is
schedueld for Friday, December, 4, 2015. This workshop features Ann
Lupkowski-Shoplik, one of the co-authors of the new "Nation Empowed" book.

Teacher Academy Call for Proposal

OAGC is now taking proposals for the Spring Teacher Academy, which will be
held on Feburary 29th and March 1st, 2015. Bertie Kingore will be our
keynote speaker for this event. If you would like to submit a small session
proposal for the Teacher Academy, please go to

December 15, 2015.
