[Ohiogift] Testing mania book

On this topic, I'd like to encourage everyone to read Karen Rumley's very thoughtful piece on the debate about testing in the last OAGC Review. I thought it struck a great balance between considering the concerns about over testing (and over interpreting test data) with the need to have useful and objective information to guide the educational decisions that teachers, school leaders, and families have to make.

A new book entitled Restoring Sanity to the Classroom: Eliminating the Testing Mania has just been published, and it covers all the contentious aspects of tests upon tests, ad nauseum, in today's classrooms. Comments are from sources like former education official Diane Ravitch, and topics include NCLB, Common Core, adequate yearly progress, and other (sometimes) farcical aspects of testing and reporting "progress."
