[Ohiogift] West Virgina Learning Skills/Behavior Gifted Rubric

[Gifted and Talented in Ohio Discussion List]

While I agree with Mary, I will say I like some of the the descriptors.  I
fail to see how this is exclusive to gifted.  My concern is that meeting
all of those areas is rather unrealistic.  It doesn't account for human
differences. Nobody would get fours in all the areas and I am not sure that
they should.   Gifted or Not.  Judy mentioned using pieces of this for a
WEP goal and I can see the possibilities for that use if an area is that is
so lacking that it is keeping a student (or adult) from reaching their
potential.

Also while the descriptors are well done, it is still very subjective.
Great care and training would be needed or great harm could be done.  For
instance, how would you know that the student is not enjoying learning?
Does curiosity equate with enjoyment of learning?  Not so sure.

I don't know much about  Costa and Kallick's 16 Habits of Mind. Was this
developed looking at successful adults?  Who defines success?  What about
cultural differences?

Just some thoughts.
