[Ohiogift] HQPD Gifted workshop Sept. 23 with Ian Byrd

       There are still  seats available for the WCOAGC Teacher Academy on September 23 in Fairborn,  Ohio, featuring  internationally known gifted specialist   Ian Byrd of www.byrdseed.com and byrdseed.TV!
    ?
    "Integrating High Quality Writing in All Content  Areas"?will provide classroom teachers and gifted  specialists with hands-on training focused  on writing skills?to add depth and complexity and to better  challenge high ability and gifted learners.
    ?
    The workshop is in  alignment with Ohio's New Learning Standards and the Common Core  Standards and will include:
   Social-emotional needs of  advanced learners and the connection to students' writing.
Specific writing skills:  careful word choice, varying sentence structure, improved figurative  language.
A collaborative writing  process to improve revision and editing.
Narrative Writing: How to incorporate authentic tools such as themes, a well-structured  plot and character archetypes.
Nonfiction Essays: How to write well-organized essays across all subjects and content  areas.
   Here is a partial list of  the CCSS Anchor standards to be featured in the workshop:
   CCS.ELA-LITERACY.CCRA.W.4  Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization,  and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.
CCS.ELA-LITERACY.CCRA.W.3  ?Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events  using effective technique, well-chosen details and well-structured event  sequences.
CCS.ELA-LITERACY.CCRA.W.5  ?Develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising,  editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach.
CCS.ELA-LITERACY.CCRA.L.3  ?Apply knowledge of language to understand how language functions in  different contexts, make effective choices for meaning or style, and to  comprehend more fully when reading or listening.
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.CCRA.L.5  Demonstrate understanding of figurative language, word relationships, and  nuances in word meanings.
   Any teacher who  provides instruction to gifted students in your district can benefit,  especially Middle School and Upper Elementary teachers. This is an  opportunity for HQPD for staff members providing gifted services! Help your gifted students perform better on writing samples and  performance-based writing assessments.
