It is true that it is not funded by the state, nor is it highly selective anymore. However, students still must be identified as gifted, and it is still a very rich experience. Otterbein University has partnered with the Martin Essex team to develop an interdisciplinary program that is still the meaningful academic and social experience you would expect from a summer camp for gifted students. Plus, there is even an opportunity that carries into the fall because of the book study that is part of the program. So, while it is likely not exactly the same as it was before, it still may be a valuable experience for many gifted high schoolers.

No funding, so no nomination required, and it's now open to sophomores as well as juniors, since they were unable to get enough takers when it became one of many fee-based gifted camps in the region.
