Summary:

We are seeking qualified individuals to fill seasonal positions as bat researchers.  Applicants should have experience conducting mist net, acoustic, radio-telemetry, and habitat surveys for federally listed bats and be considered qualified to conduct surveys in one or more states.  We are seeking detail-oriented professionals who have a demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.  You must be willing to travel for extended periods of time, generally a minimum of 10 days per mobilization.  The majority of travel will likely be to West Virginia, but possibly also Pennsylvania, Virginia, Ohio, and surrounding states.   Hotel rooms and meal per diems are provided while traveling on projects.  Most work is generally from early June to mid-August, but may start as early as mid-May.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  *   Conducting rare, threatened, and endangered bat surveys on development projects throughout the Northeast, Midwest, and Southeast United States.
  *   Performance of field site reconnaissance, habitat assessments, mist netting, portal searches, radio-telemetry, and possibly acoustic sampling or analyses.
  *   Supervision of one or more technical teams, including associated field staff.
  *   Coordination with project/task managers, field supervisors, land agents, and/or landowners as required.
  *   Assistance with bat equipment preparations, White-Nose Syndrome decontamination procedures, data entry and/or report writing, or other environmental surveys as needed.

Qualifications


  *   B.S. degree or experience in natural resources, biology, or wildlife-related field
  *   Experience selecting survey sites and interacting with landowners and field supervisors
  *   Working knowledge of federal and state bat survey protocols
  *   State and/or federal permit or the qualifications to be added to a permit
  *   Knowledge and ability to identify bats of the Eastern U.S.
  *   Must be detail-oriented and maintain professionalism at all times. "Client First" approach to all interactions.
  *   Working knowledge of acoustic monitoring equipment and software
  *   QBS or BI status in Pennsylvania preferred, but not required
  *   Must be willing to travel for extended periods of time.
  *   Must be able to work well in a team environment and be able to take direction.

Physical Demands and/or Other Job Information (if applicable):

Field work will be conducted at night in variable weather and environmental conditions, often requiring long or irregular hours, and could include hiking long distances and carrying heavy equipment in steep, uneven terrain or deep water.  A commitment to safely performing job duties in these conditions is required.  A valid driver’s license and a driving record that allows the applicant to meet insurable standard required to operate a company vehicle are required.   Employees may be required to pass drug screening criteria.
