Bat Telemetry Summer Technician (with corrections)

Job Description:
The University of West Georgia is hiring 1-2 full-time seasonal technicians during
summer 2017 to assist on an endangered bat study. The primary duties of the
technician will involve intensive mist-netting, habitat assessment, and radiotracking
(day and night) of Indiana and northern long-eared bats in Alabama’s
Talladega National Forest. The technician will need to spend long periods of time in
the field under hot, humid, and buggy conditions.

Qualifications:
Applicants must be working towards or have obtained a bachelor’s degree in
biology, wildlife ecology, or related field. Current rabies vaccination is required.
Applicants should be comfortable with spending extensive periods of time at a semiremote
location, be able to work independently and hike across mountainous
terrain under a variety of weather conditions while carrying heavy equipment, and
have good orienteering skills. Applicants should be in good physical condition and
be able to work at night. Applicants must also be motivated and have a good attitude
and strong work ethic. Preferred qualifications: proficient in radio-telemetry
techniques, experience in bat mist-netting, tagging, and identification, ability to
identify southeastern trees, and conduct standard vegetation measurements.

Housing and Transportation will be proved at the study site.

Position dates: May through early August 2017 (exact dates to be determined)

Salary: $4000 stipend
