Seasonal Indiana Bat Biologist
Organization: Western EcoSystems Technology, Inc.
Location: Bloomington, IN

WEST, Inc., a national environmental consulting firm, is seeking seasonal employees to conduct summer mist-net and telemetry surveys for the endangered Indiana bat. Approximately 5-7 days of work/week from May 15  to August 23 with the possibility of work extending into the fall.

Description:
The biologist will perform Indiana bat mist-net surveys at sites in Ohio, Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri and other states within the species range. The biologist may also conduct roost telemetry, foraging telemetry, and emergence counts. The applicant should have a federal endangered species permit or sufficient experience to be added to a permit. The applicant should have experience selecting suitable mist-net locations, conducting mist-net surveys independently, identifying eastern bat species, and interacting positively with field crew, project managers, clients, and landowners.

Starting wage: competitive hourly rate, commensurate with qualifications and experience
Start date: May 2014
Housing, vehicle, per diem, and cell phone for field work provided.

Requirements:
Must have a federal endangered species permit or sufficient experience to be added to a permit. This work requires a person to navigate varying and rugged terrain safely and potentially alone in difficult weather conditions. Must be skilled in the use of mist-nets, topographic maps, aerial photos, GPS units, and other field equipment as required. Precise and thorough data collection is essential. Radio-tracking experience is preferable.

Valid driver's license required. Investigation into driving record will be conducted upon hiring. Driving record must meet standards set to operate motor vehicle on behalf of WEST. Background check will be conducted on final candidates. Contract will require drug testing and candidates must be able to pass drug screening criteria.
