Hello everyone,
 In late May 2013, I sent out a request for data on Indiana bat roost characteristics.
Thanks to those of you that participated in this distribution wide analysis. Please send me your data as soon as you can. If you could send either hardcopies of your datasheets and/or scan&email/fax them to me, I would be very grateful. Also, if you have any comments, critiques, or advice to share please do so, I could always use it. I will be continuing to conduct this analysis for the next few years. So if you are still willing, I would greatly appreciate your help in the summer of 2014. Keep an eye out for my pre-season request e-mail next year.
 For those of you that did not receive my data request e-mail, please see below and the attached documents. Again, I will be requesting data for the next few years so I would be very grateful if you would consider participating in this analysis next year!

Hello everyone,
 I hope to enlist the help of many of you to conduct a distribution wide analysis of Indiana bat roosts as part of my dissertation, a multi-scale analysis of bat roosting ecology with a focus on the endangered Indiana bat.
 The federally endangered Indiana bat is known to use roosts with different characteristics throughout its range. For example, Indiana bat populations within Midwestern and Southern (Appalachian) landscapes differ in their use of tree species and roosting habitat. Variation in roost use by the species' even exists between relatively close populations. For example, the Indianapolis International Airport's Indiana bat population uses anthropogenic roosts to an extent not observed in other Midwestern populations. In order to determine how extensive this variation in roost use is across the species' range, and whether there is an underlying common trait(s), we will conduct a distribution wide study using standardized methods of data collection.
 Unfortunately, I am unable to conduct research everywhere at once; chiefly due to the fact that there is not enough coffee in the world to conduct such a feat. Understanding such unfortunate limitations, we here at the Center for Bat Research, Outreach, and Conservation thought that we would request the help of our friends and fellow researchers to complete this task.
 Those of you who are planning on working with Indiana bats over the next few summers, please see the PDF document, datasheet, and protocol for an overview of what I am planning. We would greatly appreciate it, if you would consider sharing your data with us (and potentially collecting data on a few more variables). The attached protocol is simple and will not increase workloads for those of you that are already conducting radio-telemetry on the species. Additionally, all volunteers will be acknowledged in all manuscripts and presentations generated as a result of this research undertaking.
 The research described here, and the attached protocol, have been reviewed by the Bloomington Field Office of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
Please contact me if you would like to help out or want more information. Additionally, this will be a multi-year long undertaking. Therefore, if you are unable to help out this year, please consider sharing your data with us during a future summer.
