WORK LOCATION:                                   Smyrna, Delaware

EMPLOYMENT PERIOD:                        May 2013 - August 2013 (approximate)

POSITION AVAILABLE:                          Research Assistant for Bat and Bog Turtle Projects
Seasonal position with the Delaware Division of Fish and Wildlife. Primary responsibilities will include assisting with recruiting and managing volunteers for bat projects, ordering, maintaining and decontaminating gear, assisting with live catches of bats, conducting acoustic surveys and analyzing the calls, preparing outreach materials, resolving bat/human conflicts and managing data. Position also involves finding maternity colonies, collecting and editing GIS data and managing multiple databases. Public outreach will be needed for a variety of the bat projects. Position will also include assisting with bog turtle surveys. Activities, such as landowner contact, data entry, mailings for permitting, filing and assisting with other projects (Delmarva fox squirrel and reptile and amphibian surveys) may be required. Must be able and willing to work night time hours as well as weekends in difficult field conditions (biting insects, long hours, hot and cold temperatures, etc.). Must have excellent communication and organizational skills.

SALARY/HOURS:
$10.00 per hour, 40 hours per week (housing not provided).

QUALIFICATIONS
1)      Must have good interpersonal and communication skills.
2)      Some college work in wildlife biology/management or closely related field required.
3)      Experience using word processing, spreadsheet and GIS applications.
4)      Ability to work independently; organized and efficient work habits; good time management skills required.
5)      Valid driver's license.
6)      Prior field experience preferred (especially with bats).
7)      Rabies-vaccinated preferred.
8)      Experience with development of outreach materials a plus.
