Copperhead Seeks GIS Analyst, Indiana Bat Biologists, Wetland Team Leaders, and Technicians

Copperhead Seasonal Positions - Indiana Bat Biologists, Wetland Team Leaders, Technicians
Copperhead Environmental Consulting, Inc. is seeking seasonal qualified Indiana bat biologists, wetland delineators, and technicians for the 2013 field season.  Start date will be flexible, but availability from mid-May through mid-August is necessary.


*         Qualified Indiana bat biologists must either possess their own federal permit or have been a sub-permittee for the past two years.

*         Wetland Team Leaders should have appropriate training certificates and be able to lead teams in the field with little supervision.

*         Technicians should have past experience with mist net survey and/or acoustic survey techniques (ANABAT preferred) and handling bats (i.e., rabies pre-exposure).  However, Copperhead will consider the right candidates with minimal experience.

These are field positions requiring long hours and extensive travel; primarily in Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee, and West Virginia.

Copperhead will cover all expenses while in the field and offers competitive wages.  Positions could become full time, permanent for the right people.  Salary will be based on experience.

GIS ANALYST
Copperhead Environmental Consulting, Inc. is seeking a full-time, permanent GIS Analyst to have primary responsibility for mapping and spatial analysis activities required for regulatory and research projects in the wildlife and environmental fields.  Projects will include, but are not limited to, bat surveys, vegetation delineation, habitat assessments, water resources, and wildlife ecology research. Salary range:  Salary contingent upon education and work experience.

Anticipated Start Date: April - May 2013

The Skills, Knowledge and Abilities We Seek
Minimum of a bachelor's degree in GIS, cartography, computer science, geography, or other GIS related field OR a GIS certificate from an accredited institution with a minimum of three (3) years of related professional experience.  A minor or emphasis in Environmental Studies/Natural Resources is a plus.

*         Must demonstrate proficiency in and knowledge of ArcGIS v9.0 or higher with familiarity of ArcGIS v10.0 or higher is preferred

*         Advanced knowledge of map production and spatial analysis using ArcGIS desktop software and GIS web technology

*         Strong knowledge of ArcGIS extensions, including Spatial Analyst

*         Ability to apply a high level of creativity and innovation to GIS analysis in support of environmental projects

*         Exceptional attention to detail

*         Excellent communication skills and ability to effectively explain GIS technology needs and opportunities to co-workers who are familiar with GIS and to those who are not

*         Ability to work with co-workers to develop maps and analysis for projects

*         Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment with rapidly changing objectives and priorities

*         Ability to be a problem-solver and innovative

*         Ability to work without direct supervision for extended periods of time while remaining motivated and efficient

*         Passion and understanding of how to effectively apply technology as a "means to an end" for solving problems and accomplishing goals

*         Working knowledge of CAD files, Trimble Pathfinder, and TerraSync is desirable

*         Familiarity with Model Builder and scripting languages such as Python (ArcPy) to automate repetitive desktop GIS tasks is a plus

*         Experience in designing and building GIS databases is a plus

*         Proficiency with MS Excel and MS Access in conjunction with ArcGIS is a plus

*         Employment for this position is contingent upon proof of US citizenship for work on government contracts

The job responsibilities for this position include:

*         Prepare paper and electronic figures for reporting purposes, field efforts, and agency coordination

*         Analyze and edit spatial and tabular data for reporting purposes and research

*         Coordinate and manage all aspects of the GIS program

*         Create and update GIS data layers

*         Create and manage databases
