On November 9, I told you that an essential book – Ecological and Behavioral Methods for the Study of Bats edited by Thomas H. Kunz and Stuart Parsons – was not reaching many of the people who needed it most. I asked for your help. Your response was immediate and incredible. We have now surpassed our $5,000 goal!

Because of your generosity, BCI will be purchasing more than 200 copies of this text, considered one of the best and most comprehensive resources for bat professionals, and hand-delivering them to bat researchers and conservationists in South Asia, Southeast Asia, Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa.

When I shared this news with renowned bat conservationist and BCI Scientific Advisory Board member Dr. Paul Racey, he responded: "I never dreamed that when I drew attention to the fact that the second edition of Kunz and Parsons’ methods book wasn't reaching the countries in which it was most needed, that so many people would be involved and so generously help in resolving that situation with their donations. This is very heartening and will do much to ensure that the enthusiasm of bat students in the developing world is channeled in the right direction."

This truly is a Season of Sharing and a great step forward for bat conservation as we near the end of the International Year of the Bat!
