· Start time: 2:00 p.m. (Eastern)
· Duration: 60 minutes
· Speaker: Ken McDonnell, Financial Education Program Analyst, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau
· Learning outcomes: The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) wants to help make libraries the go-to source for unbiased financial education resources in every community. The plan to accomplish this includes building a community financial education infrastructure with libraries and national partners to reach consumers in their neighborhoods, while capitalizing on existing programs and resources already in the field. Using that infrastructure, the goal is to fill consumers’ critical financial knowledge gaps by providing and distributing easy-to-understand, behaviorally informed financial education content through participating libraries. It also involves working with existing programs and resources and expanding efforts already occurring in communities. This program will provide ideas, resources, and tools; help libraries connect with local partners; share best practices already working in libraries; provide materials that promote financial education; and conduct trainings for library staff and patrons.
· Expected level of knowledge for participants: No prerequisite knowledge required
