Illinois position
The Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign seeks to fill a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in the field of modern or contemporary Chinese literature, preferably with a research and teaching interest in media or performance study. The successful candidate must demonstrate strong skills and evidence in interdisciplinary approach to Chinese literary scholarship. PhD in Chinese literature or a related field and native or near-native fluency in Chinese and English are required.  Applicants must have a promising research profile and a strong commitment to teaching Chinese language and culture at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates with superior qualifications who will complete all the Ph.D. requirements within the first appointment year may be appointed at the rank of Lecturer. After the Ph.D. requirement is met, the appointment will be changed to Assistant Professor.
Successful candidates are expected to teach effectively at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, establish and maintain an active and independent research program, and provide service to the department, the university and the profession.
Salary is competitive. Target start date is August 16, 2018.
