German’s video likens Mao to Hitler (1)
Wang Baoqiang, in addition to his recent comic roles, also appeared in one of the modern-day red classics titled “My Brother Called Shunliu”. In the TV series, he is a sniper, very dedicated to the struggle against Japanese aggression and to the cause of revolution. My guess is his sentiment for “Mao Yeye” was part of his qualifications for that role and stuck with him. He may not just be foolish and stupid when he showed his undying loyalty as a Maoist. He must have enjoyed his acting role as a foot soldier of Mao and CCP. The question is not if Mao is Hitler, but if those Chinese millennials like Wang Baoqiang even know enough modern Chinese history to love or hate Mao. Good thing he is not of one those “angry youth” (fen-qing) that are nationalistic and patriotic for all the wrong reasons.
