The School of Languages and Cultures  offers the widest range of undergraduate and postgraduate language studies in Australia and is a centre for European, Latin American, Asian and Middle Eastern studies.
The Department of Chinese Studies within the School of Languages and Cultures is seeking to appoint a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in the fields of modern and contemporary Chinese literature, or cultural studies.
As the successful applicant you will:
maintain a research profile compatible with the department’s research programs through publication and research grant application
supervise honours and postgraduate research students in modern and contemporary Chinese literary and/or cultural Studies
contribute to core units in the Chinese Studies major including developing and teaching Chinese language classes at different levels
make an active contribution to interdisciplinary teaching and research by developing elective units for inclusion in the Chinese Studies and Asian Studies majors, areas of focus would reflect your area of expertise, highlighting the close link between interdisciplinary teaching and research encouraged within the School of Languages and Cultures
coordinate and help promote Chinese Studies within the University and to the community
engage in community outreach activities of the department and school
work flexibly and collaboratively in a team environment and to assume roles in administration and planning in the department and school.
To be the successful applicant you will need:
a PhD in Chinese Studies
native or near native competency in Chinese and English
a strong record of peer-reviewed publications relative to opportunity
demonstrated experience and commitment to innovative teaching and course development in modern and contemporary Chinese literature and/or cultural studies
experience in designing and teaching Chinese-language modules at different levels with demonstrated success in promoting student retention and achieving high levels of language competency
a demonstrated ability, relative to opportunity, to develop and maintain an active research program including research grant applications
evidence of your capacity to work flexibly and collaboratively in a team environment and to assume roles in administration and planning in the department and school.
For appointment at Senior Lecturer level you will also need:
a record of successful honours and postgraduate research student supervision
a monograph with a reputable international publisher in the discipline.
Desirable for appointment at either Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level requires:
experience of interdisciplinary teaching and/or research
familiarity with e-Learning platforms
demonstrated administrative skills.
