Background and Aims
Originally from Guangdong, one of the famous hometowns of international Chinese, the Cantonese have immigrated to almost every corner of the world. With courage and tenacity they have built new homes in new places. The Cantonese came to the new world of Australia more than 150 years ago. Despite hard times they built their lives and created legends in this vast new nation. Today’s Australian Chinese have become part of multicultural Australia and have contributed great achievements to local societies.
To celebrate such achievements, the Guangdong Community Federation will hold the 8th Conference of the World Guangdong Community Federation and the 2nd World Congress of Guangdong Overseas Chinese Youth in Sydney in October 2015. The first International Conference of the Silk Road, as part of the gathering, will be held simultaneously. The Silk Road Conference will not only gather global Cantonese leadership, but will present important and innovative academic research on the theme of “China in the World from the Maritime Perspective”. The conference will bring academic rigour to the history of hardship and toil and offer directions for the future role of Chinese entrepreneurs from an academic perspective.
