New Mexico position
The Department of Foreign Languages & Literatures at the University of New Mexico invites applications for a Lecturer II position in East Asian Studies-Mandarin Chinese beginning in August 2016.  The successful candidate will contribute to the pedagogical goals of a department seeking to develop further its new East Asian Studies major and to strengthen the teaching of critical languages.  This Lecturer will work closely with existing faculty in Chinese and Japanese to teach courses in Chinese and the East Asian Studies program.
The position will involve teaching a base load of twelve credits a semester.  The successful candidate will develop and teach undergraduate beginning and intermediate courses in Chinese language that integrate exposure to East Asian cultures. Salary and benefits are competitive.
This position requires an M.A. degree in hand by time of appointment in a field of Chinese language, applied linguistics and/or pedagogy by August 1, 2016.  Native or near-native fluency in written and spoken Chinese as well as English is expected as well as evidence of successful teaching at a North American university.
We would prefer a candidate who can demonstrate successful involvement with student activities, experience in assessment of language teaching, and the ability and willingness to assist in developing the East Asian Studies program.  Additionally, we prefer candidates who are familiar with new technologies in language teaching.
