The Department of Comparative Literature has established strengths in cultural studies, film studies, and comparative literary studies. The Department offers a very popular Major and also contributes to general education through a significant contribution to the University’s Common Core Curriculum. In addition to the research postgraduate programs (M.Phil. and Ph.D.), it also offers a Master of Arts in Literary & Cultural Studies (MALCS).
The Department now seeks to strengthen its research and teaching profile by appointing a person with expertise in literature, critical theory, and cultural studies, with an emphasis on Asia. An additional focus on Hong Kong literature and/or gender and sexuality will also be an advantage.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature, or a related field. The appointee will have an established or growing international research profile in their field. He/She will contribute to undergraduate teaching, the Common Core Curriculum, the research postgraduate programs, and will be expected to apply for external grants. He/She will also carry out administrative duties appropriate to their rank. Appointee at Associate Professor or Professor rank will be expected to take a leadership role in the Department. Information about the Department can be obtained at http://www.complit.hku.hk/.
A globally competitive remuneration package commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, as well as annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract- end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
Applicants should send a completed application form together with a cover letter, research and teaching statements, the names of three referees, and an up-to-date C.V. to AP1391 at hku.hk. Application forms (341/1111) can be downloaded at http://www.hku.hk/apptunit/form-ext.doc and further particulars can be obtained at http://jobs.hku.hk/. Please indicate clearly in the form the post applied for and the reference number. Closes January 10, 2016.
The University thanks applicants for their interest, but advises that only candidates shortlisted for interviews will be notified of the application result.
