JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
Ruhr University Bochum / Germany, East Asian Studies (Fakultät für Ostasienwissenschaften)
https://www.h-net.org/jobs/job_display.php?id=50954
The Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) is one of Germany’s leading research universities. The University draws its strengths from both the diversity and the proximity of scientific and engineering disciplines located on a single, coherent campus. This highly dynamic setting enables students and researchers to work across traditional boundaries of academic subjects and faculties. The RUB is a vital institution in the Ruhr area, which has been selected as European Capital of Culture for the year 2010.
The Ruhr-Universität Bochum – Faculty of East Asian Studies invites applications for the position of
*** Professor in Literature and Language of China ***
(W3 salary bracket; previous Chair: Prof. Raoul David Findeisen) to start as soon as possible.
The future holder of the post will represent the subject in research and teaching.
The applicant should further have a proven record of academic excellence in one of the two fields of Chinese literature or language including pre-modern forms of language and literature. The future Chair will also assume responsibility for the Master of Education in Chinese, for the Richard-Wilhelm Translation Centre (Richard-Wilhelm-Übersetzungszentrum), and the Taiwan Research Unit.
The future chair is expected to demonstrate a very good track record of establishing and maintaining working relations with Chinese, Taiwanese and other international research institutions and universities.
Positive evaluation as a junior professor or equivalent academic achievement (e.g. habilitation; current position as an Associate-Professor, Reader or similar) and evidence of a good record in academic teaching are just as much required as the willingness to participate in the self-governing bodies of the RUB and to generally get involved in university processes according to RUB’s mission statement. A willingness to master German as a language of instruction is expected.
We expect furthermore:
--high commitment in teaching
--readiness to participate in interdisciplinary academic work
--willingness and ability to attract external funding
--a strong publication record in international academic journals
--experience in research and teaching in East Asia
--ability to cooperate with non-university institutions
The Ruhr-Universität Bochum is an equal opportunities employer. Complete applications including a curriculum vitae, list of publications, list of courses and seminars taught in the past, list of external research funding, and electronic copies of relevant certificates should be sent to the Dean of the Faculty of East AsianStudies, Ruhr-Universität Bochum, D-44780 Bochum no later than (30 June 2015).
