Placing culture in urban China
Preliminary workshop programme:
'Placing' culture in urban China
University College London, 2 July
Dear all,
We are pleased to announce the preliminary programme for the 'Placing' culture in urban China workshop, taking place 2 July at University College London.
The workshop is intended to initiate a transdisciplinary dialogue between scholars working towards two reciprocal research orientations: the role of arts and culture in the transformation of urban space in contemporary China; and the representation and re-imagination of the urban in contemporary Chinese artistic and cultural expression. We hope that the workshop will strengthen research networks and inspire new and innovative perspectives and methodologies.
We are excited to announce that the workshop will be anchored by four invited speakers, each of whom will situate the discussion in terms of their own (inter)disciplinary understandings: Dr Hyun Bang Shin (Geography, LSE), Prof Andy Pratt(Cultural Economy, City University London), Prof Chris Berry (Film Studies, KCL), and Dr Maurizio Marinelli (History, Sussex). A full list of speakers is below.   Please register here to join us!   For any enquiries, please contact the workshop organizers, Murray Mckenzie (murray.mckenzie.14 at ucl.ac.uk) or Yixiang Sun (yixiang.sun.11 at ucl.ac.uk).   Please view this programme, and all abstracts, online at https://placingcultureinurbanchina.wordpress.com/
