MCLC LIST
New Keywords in Chinese Cinema Studies–cfp
To celebrate its 10th year of publication the Journal of Chinese Cinemas is calling for submissions to a dossier entitled “New Keywords in Chinese Cinemas Studies”. The idea is to present key terms that have emerged over the past decade or so that suggest new directions in the study of Chinese cinemas. Notions that have dominated the field since the 1990s, such as nation, gender, identity, and visuality, for example, may have now given way to new concepts, such as digital technology, documentary, temporality, creative industries, CEPA, ecocinema, sound, screen studies, etc. It is important to account for the emergence and development of these key terms and their significance to the field. Inspired by Raymond Williams’s Keywords, each entry should explain the origin of the term, assess its relevance to film studies, and review extant scholarship on the subject within Chinese cinemas studies. Each entry should be around 1,500 words. Do not have a separate list of bibliography but mention the title, author and year of publication for each item in the main text.
Entries will not be peer-reviewed in the strict sense but feedback will be provided by the editorial team of the Journal. Expression of interest and suggestion of keywords are welcome, and can be sent to the Editor, Song Hwee Lim at shlim at cuhk.edu.hk by 15 July 2015. All entries should be submitted by 31 September 2015 and selected entries will appear in 2016 in a special issue celebrating the Journal’s 10th year of publication.
