RMMLA poetry panel–cfp
Call for Papers Rocky Mountain MLA Annual Convention October 8-10, 2015 in Santa Fe, New Mexico “Shifting Paradigms in Chinese Poetry”
This panel invites papers focusing on mechanisms that result in paradigm shifts in Chinese poetry, both traditional and modern. The goal is to investigate how specific formal innovations, linguistic phenomena, conditions of production, and modes of reception radically change the way we read (and write) Chinese poetry. Relevant topics include, but are not limited to: issues of language (classical, vernacular, dialects), poetic form, game-changers (individual poets, literary societies), gender (identity formation, women’s writing), comparative poetics, hermeneutics, poetry’s relationship with other media (visual art, music, film), biographical or historical interpretations, etc. Ideally, papers would reconsider existing narratives of Chinese poetry and/or reassess the contributions of specific poets. Please submit a paper abstract of approximately 300 words and a short bio to Chris Tong (ctong at wustl.edu) and Paul Manfredi (manfredi at plu.edu) by March 1, 2015. Notice of acceptance or rejection will be given by March 31, 2015.
