Solid piece, thanks for the posting. It's the story of the bat and the
moth. The moth develops ultrasound clicks to outmaneuver the bat, the
bat uses clicks to trick the moth.

The rise of consumer society in industrialized countries after WWII
affected institiutions of power in many ways. The emergence of
information technology since the 1970s and 80s has completely changed
political power. And not only in China.

Belief in ideas like freedom, privacy, and transperancy seems rather
quaint in a world where the Panopticon is digital.
