This reminds me of the movie The Magic Christian (1969), starring Peter
Sellers and Ringo Starr, where the rich Sellers buys a very expensive
Rembrandt portrait full of black shadow and then proceeds to cut the nose
of the depicted person with scissors as the only valuable part (there is
light on the nose), in the presence of the appalled, art-loving
auctioneer. Vandalism is a long-established art, materially and
symbolically.
