This Week on China Digital Times

Three Directives from the Ministry of Truth warn media outlets to cool
coverage of stories related to unhealthy Beijing pollution, China’s low
performance in press freedom rankings, and a recent New Year’s Gala
attended by the rich and politically-powerful.

Chairman of the China Banking Regulatory Commission, Shang Fulin may be
the latest “tiger” caught in president Xi Jinping’s anti-corruption
crackdown. Censors are at work keeping online rumors out of sight, but in
this week’s Sensitive Words segment, CDT compiles a list of blocked Weibo
terms, like this damning query: Shang Fulin+extremely corrupt (尚福林+巨贪)

Read the CDT Bookshelf interview with writer/photographer Tom Carter and
this week's Netizen’s Voices segment together; both Mr. Carter and China’s
online users remark on the sex-trade in China.

Finally, in this week’s Word of the Week, CDT revisits the scandal of
former Microsoft China president, Tang Jun who fudged his résumé, was
undone by microbloggers, and in the process, made himself into the butt of
a joke.
