Subject: If You Are the One undercover story (1)

Regarding ol' Andy's famous 15 minutes: “Warhol’s most familiar, if
misquoted, interview pronouncement, ‘in the future, everyone will be
world-famous for fifteen minutes’ . . . most probably derives from the
fifteen-minute duration that was standard in the field of broadcasting
from the early days of radio programming . . .” Reva Wolf,
“Introduction,”I'll Be Your Mirror: The Selected Andy Warhol Interviews :
1962-1987.

Very charming first person account. The author's background in media
studies is impressive. One thing that amazes me about "reality TV" is how
this incredibly pervasive form of global capitalist media has managed to
be adapted in almost every nation on the planet. The reality TV game
show/contest is a form of entertainment that basically pits individuals
against each other in an artificial and yet actual form of competition
that includes groups of ecstatic moderators, audience members, blaring
music, and cliff-hanging melodramatic denouements cannibaized from several
other genres (fictional and documenatry). And these dizzying real-life
artifical performances have managed to attract vast amounts of capital and
swelling and roaring audiences in each respective country. A very
successful hybrid form of media spectator capitalism that will be studied
long after Warhol's 15 minutes are replaced by 10 seconds (See Vine).

All the best,

Sean
